Shawn McBride here, live from Maryland. I wanted to talk with you today about one small thing that you can do that can change your life. Really, really interesting stuff for us here. I’ve been having a lot of conversations this week, and I have something that can really change our lives. So, for those of you listening, let me know where you’re talking from and what issues you’re facing. A recurring theme this week is how we can do better in the future. How can we get the lives we want? A lot of it comes down to visioning. You’d be shocked how many CEOs, executives, and successful people I talk to might have a one-year plan, might have a two-year plan, but very few have a 10-year or a 20-year plan. And that’s where we need to start.
When people come to me now and say, “I want to be successful. I want to make a lot of money. I want to build this business,” I don’t even want to start a conversation. I don’t even want to work with them and help them until I know where they’re going 10 or 20 years in the future. I need to know what they want and what’s authentic to them, and then we can work backwards. I’ve learned over the years that is one of the keys to success. Yes, you can hit short home runs, sometimes get one right away, but if you’re going to do it again, and again, and again, if you’re going to be really, really successful and really build your business, you need to know who you are, what your dreams are, and what you’re building. You really need to have that vision. I want everybody thinking about that.
It’s really simple; start with who you are. Write down your age in 10 years, and then go into great detail about what you want your life to look like. How do you want to spend your time? Who do you want around you? What do you want your relationships to look like? Where do you want to be economically, emotionally, and spiritually? Go into great detail about where you are 10 years from now. When you do that, you can make decisions consistent with it, and you can build to it. We’ll talk more about this in the future, but it’s a key concept that we want to be building for the future. We want to be increasing our visions, and we want to work in more and more details towards what we want, and that’s going to help us a ton in the future.
Share with me where you want to be in 10 years with the comments below. Let me know. I would love if you would like my Facebook page. Let your friends know about it. Then more importantly, write to me and tell me about media outlets that could use this message of visioning. I would love private messages about media outlets that could use my input on visioning. That would help us spread this word and get more people involved in our community, more people doing great things, and we can all work together to help each other. I’m Shawn McBride. Let me know how I can help you. Send me some messages and comments.
