THE GAME OF PLANNING

McBride For Business | December 2016

INTENTIONAL PLANNING

Planning is intentional. When you are prepared, you make plans. The chances of making more money, being successful and leveraging a better position for your business is staggeringly high when you have a plan.

Why do we plan? Planning is fundamental in preparing to build, expand, or grow a business. The first step to planning is setting a goal – to set a course or destination for the future.

Ultimately, to build a successful business for tomorrow, you need the right team with the right skills. To do this, your business must first strengthen certain areas of the organization. That is why the importance of planning and thinking on your feet is imperative to creating a successful business.

REACH YOUR GOALS BY TEAM PLANNING

They say a lawyer representing himself has a fool for a client. I say that a business person trying to do everything themselves has a lot on their plate. You need to do a lot in business…by yourself or with your team.

Good plans make everyone work together to do more in a way they understand and enjoy.

MAKE PLANS FUN

Planning gets a bad reputation. “Planning meetings” are dreaded. Research even shows that too much planning can take all the fun out of an organization.

The Game of Planning changes that. By having groups interact and engage by learning the concept of planning they learn more and do more.

COMMON PURPOSE

Proper planning involves building a framework you can rely on. To bring clarity to business plans and goals, the team must have a common purpose. And they must understand how they each fit into fulfilling that purpose.

The benefits of employee specialization cannot be denied. It would be foolish to try and accomplish everything by yourself. You want to establish a team with each employee understanding their role in the organization and how they fit in the plan.

Sometimes the right plan is as simple as hiring the right person – who has the knowledge or expertise to get the business where it needs to be. But often it requires getting all your team players working together.

WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM – TO EXCEL

In most cases, you can develop knowledge and expertise. The problem is that it might take so much time and effort that it could take you away from your core message. This would harm your business. In fact, it might even run your business into the ground. What you need to do is hire the right team and involve them in the overall vision of your business.

In fact, the more capable people you have on your team, the more directions of profit and prosperity you might see. And when everyone works together for a shared goal, with communication; magical things happen.

You want to make sure your teams are cooperative. Having the right personalities on your team is key.

DEPENDENCE ON TEAMS – FOCUS ON COMMUNICATION

Conscious planning, conscious partnerships and conscious relationships will allow the business to reimagine a better tomorrow and develop a blueprint to build a more collaborative, complete, and positive future for everyone on the team.

Conscious partnerships and relationships with others will help navigate turbulent waters when they arise. It is important to surround the business with people of integrity and value.

STRATEGIC PLANNING – GET BETTER OUTCOMES USING TECHNIQUE TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

Strategic planning will help you to reflect on various ways to get better outcomes and achieve goals. Strategic planning involves the follow techniques:

  • Future Mapping
  • Connecting the Dots – setting possible paths to the goal
  • What-If Testing
  • Allow for Growth and Change
  • Write a Plan
  • Test the Plan
  • Implement the Plan
  • Revise and Update the Plan

COLLABORATIVE TEAMWORK

One of the key points in structuring a business plan is to collaborate with your team. It is important to understand that plans change and evolve based off team input. Team meetings and group discussion often bring new ideas to the business that generate efficiencies and improvements. It is important to be flexible and open.

TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES TO PROBLEM SOLVE

Now, there will be issues that arise or unforeseen events that transpire in the life of your business. You will need to have a contingency plan in place to deal with these unexpected events. This is where team building activities is crucial to have teams that respect and understand each other.

What might happen if something fundamental or so drastic happened to your business and there was a problem?
