If we are truly growing and learning we are developing new skills. But developing new skills can be hard. Very hard.
Secretly I think this is why most people don’t succeed.
Because it’s easy to stay in your current habits and patterns. It’s hard to look at what needs to change and make a change.
Charles Duhigg’s book The Power of Habit does an amazing job of examining habits and how to change them – and why they mean so much in business.
This week is a tale of both worlds for me.
I am back into book writing and my business partner Dali Kranzthor and I made amazing progress on our soon to be released book What Your Business Needs to Know NOW About Blockchain.
And getting into the habit of writing more – and keeping old habits – each day is hard.
The new goal is to write 3,000 words a day among my various books, articles and projects. This means I need to improve as a writer and increase my pace while keeping up quality.
Readers of this blog/email series may have seen the first effects. Between the July 4th holiday and the work on the book I fell out of the habit of getting my work done to blog every day right here.
The key lesson
The key lesson is just what Charles Duhigg tells us in The Power of Habit. Not every attempt to change a habit is going to work. But if we test and experiment we might find a way that works for us.
